Training and Restructuring Woody Trees and Shrubs (Online)

Program: When pruning, we often think about shaping the outline of the tree; but trees are architectural beings, they have structure. We can best train a strong structure when the tree is young by using simple hand tools. The right training at the right time prolongs the life of the tree, reduces the potential for breakage, and makes later pruning much easier. Structural pruning can also be used on older, damaged trees to help restore a good structure. After this program, you will never look at trees the same way again!
Speaker: Ellyn Shea is a Certified Arborist, Certified Tree Risk Assessor, Registered Consulting Arborist, gardener, and garden coach. She collaborated with Dr. Larry Costello on the 2012 instructional video, “Training Young Trees,” available on YouTube. She is also the originator of Arboriculture Boot Camp, a workshop series designed in preparation for a Certified Arborist examination or for professional development.
