San Bruno Mountain Habitat Restoration Event

June 10, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

San Bruno Mountain is a beautiful natural “island” in a sea of urbanization, and it functions as key habitat for numerous endangered or threatened butterfly species including the San Bruno Elfin and the Mission Blue. Come join us Saturday, June 23rd to help us improve crucial butterfly habitat by planting native plants and remove invasive species.

LOGISTICS AND ACCESSIBILITY :

  • We will be hiking up a steep hill to reach our restoration site, and both watering and weeding will occur on a slope. If you want to help with habitat restoration in County Parks but aren’t up for a steep hike, please stay tuned for our upcoming events, as most will be accessible to a broader swath of volunteers.
  • We ask that you wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty for your protection and comfort. Sunscreen, snacks, hats, and layers are also great to have on hand in case the weather gets warm or cold–San Bruno Mountain is famous for quick changes in temperature and windspeed! If weather conditions are deemed too extreme, this event may be canceled and we will reach out to participants by email.
  • Please bring a personal water bottle for each member of your group as drinking water will not be available at this site.
  • There will be no restroom available in the immediate vicinity of our restoration site, so we recommend using the bathroom before coming to the event.

A reminder email with more detailed instructions on the day’s activities and where to meet will also be sent in advance of the event. We look forward to seeing you in the parks!

Please direct questions and comments for this event to Charlie Landon at clandon@smcgov.org.
