SUMMARY:Mussel Rock Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:About the Cleanup:\nTime: Fourth Saturday of the month from 9am-11am\, rain or shine. Check our online monthly calendar for exact dates.\nWhere to Meet:  At the Mussel Rock carpark located at the lower coastal end of Westline Drive by the second entrance to Allied Waste Transfer Station.  Drive north past the junction of Skyline Drive\, avoiding the other Westline Drive that goes up a steep hill.\nParking:  Free parking is available all the time on any of the roads or at the car park at the meet up spot. Follow the signs to the car park so that you do not get lost on the other Westline Drive that ends up above the Transfer Station.\nCleanup Areas: The team cleans up the streets\, bluffs\, car park and park\, itself\, as well as the beach if the tide is out far enough for our safety.  There is the Secret Waterfall nearby that is a good place to clean if you are looking for excitement rappelling down a rope to the bluff and walking down to the beach.\nSupplies: Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own buckets and reusable gloves. Extra gloves\, buckets\, pickup sticks and specific tools for this site cleanup will be provided while supplies last. The weather is unpredictable (very cold and windy\, although it can be sunny and warm).  Make sure to bring extra layers\, a hat\, sunblock\, water and snacks.\nLitter: The team usually picks up plastic bags\, bottles\, cigarettes and other household waste because this is where the Bay Area’s trash is brought before it is transferred to other sites. Mussel Rock Beach is a designated Japanese Tsunami Marine Debris Cleanup Program site\, and is the only one that has reported items to NOAA and GGNRA which appear to have originated from Japan.\nRestrooms: Regrettably\, there are no public restrooms at this site. \nSign Up Here!

DESCRIPTION:Many rare plant and animal species live on Sign Hill’s native grasslands\, including the endangered mission blue butterfly. Help us conserve and restore their habitat by installing native plants and removing invasive plants! Sign Hill Stewards will do important work while also learning more about the wildlife in their backyard. \n  \nWhen: Every other Friday from 9am-12pm and the 2nd Saturday of each month from 9am-12pm. Only cancelled for heavy rains. \nWhere: Volunteers will park at the Sign Hill Parking Lot nearby 964 Ridgeview Ct\, South San Francisco\, CA (Google Maps Link) and hike with staff to the restoration site. \nRegistration: Registration is required. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a youth waiver signed by a parent/guardian. SUMMARY:Esplanade Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Time: 3rd Saturday of the month from 9am to 11am. \nWhere to Meet: Meet at the top of the stairs on Esplanade Avenue next to Oceanaire Apartments (100 Esplanade Ave\, Pacifica\, CA).\nParking: Street parking only along Esplanade Avenue. There are no parking lots in the area. If it’s a great surfing or fishing day\, you may find parking up on Bill Drake Way or Palmetto Avenue (one block walk from the cleanup site).\nCleanup Areas: We’ll focus on the bluffs\, Coastal Trail parklet to the south\,  and the nearby streets\, where lots of litter and debris collects before the wind blows it into the ocean. Our goal is to pick it up before that happens! When the trail down to the beach is accessible we will cover as much of the beach as the tides allow.\nSupplies: Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own buckets and reusable gloves. Extra gloves and buckets for this site cleanup will be provided while supplies last. Because we are never sure of the weather\, make sure to bring extra layers\, a hat\, sunblock\, water and snacks.\nLitter:  Bottles\, cans\, wrappers\, packing straps\, cigarette butts\, and plenty of debris can be found on Manor and Esplanade Streets above the bluff as well as on the bluff.  Esplanade Beach when accessible receives a lot of styrofoam and plastic (huge chunks to micro size) from the ocean. SUMMARY:San Pedro Valley Park: Trail and Habitat Restoration Work Days
DESCRIPTION:Trail and Habitat Restoration Work Days \nEach month\, the second Saturday is designated for Trail Work and the third Saturday is designated for Habitat Restoration Work. Volunteers meet at the Visitor Center at 9 a.m. for Trail work and and 10 am for Habitat restoration to begin work with rangers and/or volunteer leaders. Tools are provided. Only gloves and other personal protective items (e.g.\, masks) are needed by volunteers.  Trail work typically involves clearing brush from the trail sides\, cleaning out drain dips\, raking out trail bends\, and cutting overhanging branches. Habitat Restoration often involves removing invasive plants (like the ever-present thistle) from trailside areas\, maintaining the Native Plant Garden at the Visitor Center\, or planting new vegetation. DESCRIPTION:Adopt-A-Highway\n\n\nRoad Warriors\nThe Friends of Edgewood organization has adopted a 1.7-mile stretch of northbound I-280 adjacent to Edgewood Park. This segment was originally adopted in 1989 by Ken Seydel\, who graciously transferred responsibility to the Friends of Edgewood in 1998. Ken served as program coordinator until 2014 and continues as to participate as a volunteer. \nThe Adopt-A-Highway group meets at the Edgewood Road / I-280 Park & Ride lot in the morning of the first Saturday of even-numbered months and the first Sunday of odd-numbered (schedule changes are made due to holidays and weather). Work teams disperse along the adopted area to bag litter and move debris to collection points. \nFor further information about the Friends of Edgewood Adopt-A-Highway program\, contact Dave Hershey at road-warriors-coord@friendsofedgewood.org. DESCRIPTION:About the Cleanup:\nTime: Fourth Saturday of the month from 9am-11am\, rain or shine. Check our online monthly calendar for exact dates.\nWhere to Meet:  At the Mussel Rock carpark located at the lower coastal end of Westline Drive by the second entrance to Allied Waste Transfer Station.  Drive north past the junction of Skyline Drive\, avoiding the other Westline Drive that goes up a steep hill.\nParking:  Free parking is available all the time on any of the roads or at the car park at the meet up spot. Follow the signs to the car park so that you do not get lost on the other Westline Drive that ends up above the Transfer Station.\nCleanup Areas: The team cleans up the streets\, bluffs\, car park and park\, itself\, as well as the beach if the tide is out far enough for our safety.  There is the Secret Waterfall nearby that is a good place to clean if you are looking for excitement rappelling down a rope to the bluff and walking down to the beach.\nSupplies: Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own buckets and reusable gloves. Extra gloves\, buckets\, pickup sticks and specific tools for this site cleanup will be provided while supplies last. The weather is unpredictable (very cold and windy\, although it can be sunny and warm).  Make sure to bring extra layers\, a hat\, sunblock\, water and snacks.\nLitter: The team usually picks up plastic bags\, bottles\, cigarettes and other household waste because this is where the Bay Area’s trash is brought before it is transferred to other sites. Mussel Rock Beach is a designated Japanese Tsunami Marine Debris Cleanup Program site\, and is the only one that has reported items to NOAA and GGNRA which appear to have originated from Japan.\nRestrooms: Regrettably\, there are no public restrooms at this site. \nSign Up Here!

DESCRIPTION:Time: 3rd Saturday of the month from 9am to 11am. \nWhere to Meet: Meet at the top of the stairs on Esplanade Avenue next to Oceanaire Apartments (100 Esplanade Ave\, Pacifica\, CA).\nParking: Street parking only along Esplanade Avenue. There are no parking lots in the area. If it’s a great surfing or fishing day\, you may find parking up on Bill Drake Way or Palmetto Avenue (one block walk from the cleanup site).\nCleanup Areas: We’ll focus on the bluffs\, Coastal Trail parklet to the south\,  and the nearby streets\, where lots of litter and debris collects before the wind blows it into the ocean. Our goal is to pick it up before that happens! When the trail down to the beach is accessible we will cover as much of the beach as the tides allow.\nSupplies: Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own buckets and reusable gloves. Extra gloves and buckets for this site cleanup will be provided while supplies last. Because we are never sure of the weather\, make sure to bring extra layers\, a hat\, sunblock\, water and snacks.\nLitter:  Bottles\, cans\, wrappers\, packing straps\, cigarette butts\, and plenty of debris can be found on Manor and Esplanade Streets above the bluff as well as on the bluff.  Esplanade Beach when accessible receives a lot of styrofoam and plastic (huge chunks to micro size) from the ocean. SUMMARY:San Pedro Valley Park: Trail and Habitat Restoration Work Days
DESCRIPTION:Trail and Habitat Restoration Work Days \nEach month\, the second Saturday is designated for Trail Work and the third Saturday is designated for Habitat Restoration Work. Volunteers meet at the Visitor Center at 9 a.m. for Trail work and and 10 am for Habitat restoration to begin work with rangers and/or volunteer leaders. Tools are provided. Only gloves and other personal protective items (e.g.\, masks) are needed by volunteers.  Trail work typically involves clearing brush from the trail sides\, cleaning out drain dips\, raking out trail bends\, and cutting overhanging branches. Habitat Restoration often involves removing invasive plants (like the ever-present thistle) from trailside areas\, maintaining the Native Plant Garden at the Visitor Center\, or planting new vegetation. These work parties typically last about 3 hours\, i.e.\, until noon or 1 pm. \nIf you are interested in joining us\, or just learning more about what we do\, please call (650-355-5454) or email us (friendsofsanpedrovalley@gmail.com) and we’ll be happy to talk with you. Or just drop by the Visitor Center on any weekend day (from 10 am to 4 pm) and speak with one of the Friends’ volunteers who are there.

DESCRIPTION:Now offering Community Farm Days! Gatherings are held on the second Saturday of the month from 9am-12pm\, Year-round. Heavy rain cancels\, we will go forward as planned if the day calls for light rain.  Check our social media or email farmer@thehealproject.org if you want to check on the status of this event in the winter time. Please note the minimum age for youth to volunteer is 10. We ask that supporters RSVP to this event\, so please do not RSVP unless you are reasonably certain you will be able to attend so that others do not miss out.   \nWear clothes you don’t mind working in. Help us harvest fruits\, veggies and flowers\, spread compost\, plant seedlings or remove weeds – prepare to get your hands dirty! To minimize health risks\, we ask that all attendees wear masks and bring their own clippers\, work gloves\, water bottles\, sunscreen\, hats\, etc. We will be practicing social distancing. \nThe San Mateo County School Farm is located at the end of Bridgeport Drive in Half Moon Bay (in the Princeton by the Sea neighborhood). Please park vehicles in front of the public park at 300 Bridgeport Drive\, Half Moon Bay. DESCRIPTION:Many rare plant and animal species live on Sign Hill’s native grasslands\, including the endangered mission blue butterfly. Help us conserve and restore their habitat by installing native plants and removing invasive plants! Sign Hill Stewards will do important work while also learning more about the wildlife in their backyard. \n  \nWhen: Every other Friday from 9am-12pm and the 2nd Saturday of each month from 9am-12pm. Only cancelled for heavy rains. \nWhere: Volunteers will park at the Sign Hill Parking Lot nearby 964 Ridgeview Ct\, South San Francisco\, CA (Google Maps Link) and hike with staff to the restoration site. \nRegistration: Registration is required. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a youth waiver signed by a parent/guardian. Youth under the age of 15 are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhat to bring: To prepare for working outdoors\, please bring work gloves\, plenty of water\, sturdy shoes\, long pants and sleeves\, a hat/sunscreen\, and a completed waiver for each volunteer. SUMMARY:Friends of Edgewood Road Warriors: Adopt-A-Highway Workday
DESCRIPTION:Adopt-A-Highway\n\n\nRoad Warriors\nThe Friends of Edgewood organization has adopted a 1.7-mile stretch of northbound I-280 adjacent to Edgewood Park. This segment was originally adopted in 1989 by Ken Seydel\, who graciously transferred responsibility to the Friends of Edgewood in 1998. Ken served as program coordinator until 2014 and continues as to participate as a volunteer. \nThe Adopt-A-Highway group meets at the Edgewood Road / I-280 Park & Ride lot in the morning of the first Saturday of even-numbered months and the first Sunday of odd-numbered (schedule changes are made due to holidays and weather). Work teams disperse along the adopted area to bag litter and move debris to collection points. \nFor further information about the Friends of Edgewood Adopt-A-Highway program\, contact Dave Hershey at road-warriors-coord@friendsofedgewood.org. Adopt-A-Highway is conducted in cooperation with Caltrans\, which provides instructions\, safety training\, and equipment.
