Learn all the questions to ask yourself BEFORE you begin.  Understand the requirements (food, space, health, etc.) for raising chicks and hens.

Co-presenter Master Gardener Cindy Burgdorf:  Cindy Burgdorf has been a UC Master Gardener for thirteen years.  Cindy has year-round vegetable beds, gardens devoted to bees and butterflies, five bee hives, six chickens, a worm bin and six compost bins. Her yard is a Monarch Waystation (Monarch Watch), a certified Butterfly Garden (NABA), a certified Wildlife Habitat (NWF) and a certified Bee-Friendly Garden (Pollinator Partnership).

Co-presenter Master Gardener Sharon Winnike: Sharon Winnike has been a volunteer UC Master Gardener since 2010 and has been active in the UC Master Gardener Gardening Education Center and Speaker Series. She became interested in raising backyard chickens in 2011 after meeting fellow Master Gardener and co-presenter Cindy Burgdorf. With sound advice from Cindy, she started her backyard flock of four in 2011. In addition to the feathered ladies, her personal garden features oak trees and shade plants, edibles, container gardens and a succulent garden.
