Coastal Cleanup Day is an annual waterway and land cleanup held on the third Saturday of every September. This year The California Coastal Commission announced that the 38th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 9am to Noon. As Covid restrictions have been lifted throughout the state, there will be the option of joining a group cleanup or holding a self-guided cleanup.

Can’t make it that morning? You can still participate in Coastal Cleanup Day! Clean up your local area any time throughout the month of September. Trash left in neighborhoods will eventually make its way onto the coast, so cleaning up the streets will also help prevent marine debris. All cleanups taking place during the month of September will count towards the statewide goals.

Please follow all state and local ordinances regarding face coverings and physical distancing. Safety first!

San Mateo County Environmental Health Services coordinates the event in partnership with the California Coastal Commission, the Ocean Conservancy, and many Statewide and local partners.

Volunteers should visit smchealth.org/ccd and register with a team and learn all the details.
